Year 4 Lights, Camera, Action

Year 4 are set for a fun-filled curriculum this term as they venture into a fabulous topic 'Lights, Camera, Action'. The topic was launched with an exciting challenge from Disney asking children to create a short, silent movie for an Oscar Night Party to be held at school at the end of October.

Children have enjoyed watching Silent Movies and learning about the history of film.

Year 4 children have also been lucky enough to recieve Ukelele lessons from Redbrige Music Service, which they are thoroughly enjoying. They are even able to take their instruments home to practise!!

The Magical Adventures of the Vennerman Twins

Well done to all Year Four children for a wonderful day of writing on Thursday 23^rd June 2011. The children were highly inspired and thoroughly enjoyed spending the whole day planning, writing, drafting and re-editing their group adventure stories. They continued with their re-editing and writing up of their neat version the following day.

As part of the ongoing ‘Year of Writing’, we hope that some of these stories will be displayed around the school to celebrate our special writing day.

On Tuesday 14^th June, the children in 4M performed a great class assembly for the whole school and their parents to watch. They showed a range of work they have done during this term.

To start off the assembly, the children showed off their French skills. They asked questions such as ‘Qui’est-ce?’ meaning ‘Who is it?’ and ‘Qu'est-ce qu'il y a dans le sac?’ meaning ‘What is in the bag?’

The children answered the questions with a number of classroom objects and with yes / no answers in French.

Following on from that the children shared their own proverbs and a short drama about ‘Daniel’ from the bible. Well done children.

Next the children read out their performance poems which they had invented and finished off the whole assembly with showing everyone what they have learnt in their music lessons.

It was a great assembly and showed to everyone they have worked extremely hard throughout the term.

Class 4V Extreme Environment Assembly

On Tuesday 24^th May, the children in 4V performed a wonderful class assembly on the theme of Extreme Environments, Performance Poetry, Wizard Bags and Bell-Boating. The children showed a variety of work and explained what they did.

Well done to all the children and thank you parents for attending 4V’s assembly.

Rabbit Year 2011

Happy Chinese New Year to all the children, parents and friends. May this year bring you all good luck, happiness and good health.

Children in Year Four have been busily enjoying learning about the Chinese New Year. They watched a great animation that taught them how the twelve animals were chosen and the reason for their order. They learnt how to count in Mandarin and Cantonese as well as writing the Chinese number characters. They wrote animal names in Chinese using paint brushes. Also, they made finger dragons and created lovely blossom tree artwork.

At the end of the school day, the children were given fortune cookies to take home.

A lovely end to the day but a great start to a Chinese New Year.

Our Christmas Coffee Morning By Year Four

On Tuesday 14th December, Year Four had a Christmas Coffee Morning in the Infant Hall at 9:00am.

The coffee morning was a Year Four Business and Enterprise Challenge (BEC), to raise money for the year group to subside the any forth coming events for their year group.

The Christmas Coffee Morning involves inviting parents from Year Four by the children to come along and celebrate this festive time of year.

For three weeks, the children worked very hard on their BEC project. The children were split into six groups: Refreshments, Entertainment, Advertising, Activities, Decoration and Workshops.

Prior to the spectacular morning, groups of children from the refreshment team made cakes with Linda. The children decorated them, ensuring each one was looking mouthwatering and delicious.

There were workshops for the parents to do with the children’s supervision, such as making Christmas cards, paper chain challenge and making Christmas decorations. In addition to this, the children performed a number of Christmas songs to entertain their parents.

Overall the morning was very successful and all of the parents who attended, staff and children thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

Thank you to all the parents who made it a great success by supporting your children.

A great trip to the Tower of London

The children in Year Four, parents and staff all thoroughly enjoyed visiting the Tower of London on Tuesday 23rd November 2011.

Helpful station staff assisted us onto the trains at each platform which made the journey to and from the Tower of London easier.

When we arrived at Tower Bridge station, there was only a short walk to the Tower. The children were excited to see all the different things they had been learning in school.

As they entered the tower gates, Class 4V and 4M took separate routes and rejoined at the end of the day. The children visited the White Tower, Beauchamp Tower, Salt Tower, Bloody Tower, Tower Green and the most exciting Jewel House. In addition to this, the children had an eventful session with a costumed character, exploring imprisonment, escape and execution in the Tudor times.

Although the Tower of London was not built as a prison, it has, over the centuries, acquired a fearsome reputation as the worst prison in the country. In the session, the children put themselves in the shoes of a prisoner and heard exciting stories of the Tower's dark history. Where would they have been locked up? What were the prisons at the Tower like? What crime might they have committed? This session especially supported skills of historical interpretation and historical enquiry by examining prison cells in the historic environment.

The children left the Tower of London full of knowledge and enthusiasm for learning.

Miss Man commented "We had a wonderful day trip to the Tower of London. The weather was really nice and everyone had so much fun."

Visiting a Synagogue

A great first hand experience, a lovely sight and a super afternoon!

The children had a great time at the synagogue and their behaviour was exceptional.

On arrival, the children waited quietly and patiently for Rabi Davis. When entering the synagogue he distributed a skull cap called the Kippah to all the boys. A Kippah is worn as a sign of respect.

Rabi Davis explained who and what the synagogue was used for, the history behind Judaism, stories about the great founder and showed us the Torah.

Thank you to Rabi Davis for allowing us have the priveledge to come and see the wonderful place of worship. The children througholy enjoyed the experience and learnt a lot from the session.

Wonderful 4M Class Assembly

On Tuesday 9^th November, Class 4M performed an excellent class assembly to the rest of the school and their parents.

The assembly covered a variety of topics that showed everyone what we have been learning about. We started off with singing a French song “Bonjour”. Then we talked about what we have learnt in our science, showed some of our art work and finished with a dance and song that we had learnt from our Samba lessons.

We worked extremely hard, trying to practise as much as possible to make it perfect.

Our parents, children and teachers were over the moon and enjoyed every minute of the performance.

There are many exciting and fun things they will be learning about throughout this term. Our two main topic theme this autumn term is Lights, Camera, Action and the Tudors. We have organised a very exciting trip to the Tower of London and to a synagogue.

We hope all the children will work hard and enjoy this term.

Our Wonderful Christmas Spectacular

On Tuesday 15th December, Year Four had a Christmas Spectacular in the Infant Hall at 9:15am.

The Christmas Spectacular was a Year Four Business and Enterprise Challenge (BEC), to raise money for the year group to subside the forth coming trip to the Tower Of London.

What is the Christmas Spectacular you ask???

The Christmas Spectacular is a Coffee and Chat morning with a Christmas twist. Parents from Year Four were invited by the children to come along and celebrate this festive time of year.

There were workshops for the parents to do with the children’s supervision, such as making Christmas cards, paper chain challenge and making Christmas decorations. In addition to this, the children provided the parents with refreshments (for a small charge) and entertainment.

For three weeks, the children worked very hard on their BEC project. The children were split into six groups:

Refreshment

Entertainment

Decoration

Treasurers

Workshop

Each group were responsible for organising their particular area of the event (under the supervision of the teachers and LSA’s).

All in all, it ended with a very successful and enjoyable morning. The children are delighted to have raised a small profit.

Everyone had fun and we would like to say “A BIG THANK YOU” to all the parents and family members, as well as staff, who have supported the children and attended this very special event.

4M's Spectacular Class Performance

On Tuesday 17th November 2009, Class 4M performed a wonderful assembly about Silent Movies and Varjak Paw.

Varjak Paw is a story that we have been studying in our Literacy lesson. We turned the beginning of the story into a silent movie.

We worked extremely hard, trying to practise everyday to make it perfect.

The parents, children and teachers were over the moon and enjoyed every minute of the performance.

Some children in Class 4M commented the following:

“The performance was really good and when someone did something wrong, it looked like it was part of the play” (EM)

“It was good fun performing it and it was good to see the younger children laughing” (EL)

“The play that we performed was really good and exciting for the parents to see” (OA)

“I really enjoyed doing the play and the acts were really funny. I can’t wait for the next one” (TJ)

“At the start I thought it was scary but in the middle of it, it was okay. I thought the assembly was really good” (SK)

“At the start I felt very scared and in the middle I enjoyed it more” (DM)

“At the assembly, I felt really shocked that the infants were laughing to our funny scenes” (MF)

Year Four Harvest Rap

On Wednesday 30th September at 10:45am, KS2 children from Manford Primary went to St Paul's Church for a harvest celebration.

Year Four pulled off an amazing Harvest rap based on the tune of 'Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air'. The reviews from staff and pupils from Manford Primary, as well as the members of St Paul's church community have commented favourably.

We changed some lines from the original lyrics of the ‘Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air’ and practised this song everyday. We designed CD covers for our rap in our I.C.T lessons.

Children made the following comments about the performance:

‘I felt scared at the beginning of the song and then I started to get happy because it didn’t seem so bad once we started rapping’ (C.E)

‘I felt quite shy because I had to perform it in front of the whole of Key Stage 2 but once I got really into it, I started to feel ok’ (E.M)

‘I felt nervous but at the end I got the hang of it and enjoyed it’ (J.V)

‘I thought that the rap was fun but nerve wracking to sing in front of everyone’ (D.K)

We enjoyed our rap performance at the church and look forward to Harvest 2010.

Welcome to Year Four 2009-2010

Miss Man, Mrs Wix, Mr Rhodes and Mr Hall would like to say a big welcome to the children in 4R and 4M. We have lots of interesting topics to keep the children interested and entertained.

The Year Four topic theme this autumn term is Lights, Camera, Action. Here the children will be learning about silent movies, light and shadows, and many more exciting things.

We hope all the children will work hard and enjoy this term.

Samba drumming

This year 4M and 4K have enjoyed a 14 week project (on one afternoon per week) learning the art of Samba drumming. This can be a very noisy activity (no complaints fron the neighbours yet!) but the tutors are very professional and coach the children into producing a wonderful Samba sound. They not only use drums as the title suggests, but also other musical instruments and part of the experience includes learning traditional Samba rhythms and rhymes.

Y4 At the Tower of London

On Thursday 7th May 2009 4M and 4K went to the historic Tower of London. All the children were very excited to find out more about Tudors for their history topic.We travelled by train to Tower Hill and arrived at about 10:15.The children consolidated their knowledge on Henry Vlll and the Tudors by looking at artefacts and seeing Henry's full body armour for real!The children also took part in a drama workshop where they performed in small groups to the pubilc.Over all, it was a fantastic day and many children were saying how much they would like to return.

Year Four visited the school environment area to find minibeasts. We were trying to find out which animals could be found in different habitats. The garden was teeming with wildlife including several frogs sunbathing in the grass. We saw cabbage white butterflies perched on the stinging nettles and birds sang in the trees. We had to look really hard for woodlice and snails because it was a hot day and they were hiding from the sun.

Year Four love the garden.
